TIMBER FENCING
All timber fencing is built with CCA treated timber
Whether you are after a good neighbour fence, butted paling or picket topped fence, timber fencing provides for great privacy and durability, while blending in with the natural surroundings. Here are just some of the styles of timber fencing you can choose from:
- Butted Paling Fence – Palings are placed as close together as possible
- Good Neighbour Fence – Both sides have the same appearance
- Picket Top Fence – Where the palings are shaped at the top
- Overlapped Paling Fencing – Provides a neat, gap-free finish
- Architectural Fencing – Perfect choice for those wanting a creative flair
NOTE: Copper chrome arsenate (CCA) treated timber is wood that has been treated with a preservative containing copper, chromium and arsenic.
BUTTED PALING FENCE
The term ‘butted paling fence’ is where all the palings are placed as closely as possible next to each other – butted together. You may have instances where there is a slight gap between the palings. It depends on the level of privacy clients are seeking to achieve.
Timber fencing panels can be build to any height that’s required and is easy to work with giving the grounds or yard that natural look and feel. The life of the timber paling fence depends on the type of timber selected. The most commonly used wood types for fences are cedar, spruce, and pine. Depending on the species, cedar may last for about 15-30 years, spruce may last for about 4-7 years, and pine may last for about 5-12 years.
GOOD NEIGHBOUR FENCE
A Good Fence Makes for Good Neighbours
Well some might disagree on that… but a good neighbour fence is where both sides of the fence have the same appearance, due to the palings being alternated either side. This fencing can help with noise reduction and at the same time enhancing protection from the elements.
Overlapped fencing includes wooden capping that’s even more sturdy and adds to the visual appearance. Clints or sleepers can also be installed along the bottom of the fence. These fences are solid lengths of gap free vertical wooden pickets which offer a formidable barrier to the outside.
PICKET TOP FENCE
Picket Top Fence is ideal for contemporary and traditional fencing solutions for both domestic and commercial projects. Picket fencing is a simple option for front yards, where the palings are shaped at the top and can add the finishing touch to your home.
Using durable timbers will last for a long time but it’s important to select the right timbers for outdoor use. Typically timbers which are used are treated pine, cypress pine, jarrah, hardwood, and red gum. These can be then painted in a range of colours to suit every home from ultra modern to traditional period styles.
OVERLAPPED PALING FENCING
Overlapped paling fencing provides a neat, gap-free finish, with complete privacy because of the two layers of palings which overlap each other. No more gaps… The back paling is usually 50mm wider than the front paling. It’s important to maintain this for even spacing and the capping rail tops off the fencing, creating a tidy neat finish and appearance.
This type of fencing is popular in many Brisbane suburbs and outer areas to the Gold Coast.
ARCHITECTURAL PALING FENCE
Architectural fencing is the perfect choice for both modern or heritage homes wanting a creative flair. Perfect for front yards, feature areas or to hide utility services.
The materials used varies depending on the home’s architecture and what complements the project as a whole. Timber fencing can be used in a variety of ways and depends on one’s creativity or could be a combination of designs making it both functional and appealing to the eye.
